How to Tell If you're ready to Go Short

Never before have we seen such a variety of short closely cropped styles for women. There's no doubt about it, wearing your hair ultra short is both easy and stylish, but short hair is not for everyone. So, how do you know if it is for you, and how can you tell when you are ready to go short?

As with most hairstyles, you will not be able to truly tell if you are ready to wear your hair ultra short until you have tried it. So one of the best indicators of whether or not you will like your new cut is if you have worn your hair short in the past and liked it. But even if you have never worn your hair short, there are a few indicators that will tell you if you will be able to stand the shock of cutting it all off.

  • Do you freak out with new styles or do you embrace change? If you dissolved into a ball of tears the last time you got a cut that was too short or a color that was too vibrant, you will likely have a hard time adjusting to a drastic new cut. If you take all things in stride, on the other hand, a new ultra-short cut will probably not phase you at all. After all, hair grows, right?
  • What type of face shape do you have? More oval face shapes accommodate almost any type of cut and style beautifully. So, the more oval your face is, the more likely you will like the way your new cut makes you look. Even if you have very strong facial features, you can increase the chance that you will like your new cut by choosing a style that enhances your favorite features and diminishes those you do not like.
  • Are you sick of dealing with your hair everyday? If your long hair is driving you nuts, and you can't stand it any longer, a short cut will most likely be a welcome change.

If you're still unsure of whether or not you will like a short cut but want to go shorter anyway, why not try getting your hair cut short in phases? You can start out by taking off a few inches at a time and a few more at each trim until you've reached the length that you desire. By cutting your hair off slowly, you can eliminate almost all of the shock associated with a drastic hair change. And best of all, you can stop before it gets too short for your liking.
