He was given a task to create multiple looks within one cut and one color pattern, and let me tell you there is no end to the combinations. Our boss Darla, was one of the firsts to model it on her recent business trip to Phoenix. She was stopped multiple times in the airport by women wanting to know where she had gotten her hair done. Sorry Arizonians. Only Hi-Lites Aveda in Cathedral City has this look. Want a little pizzazz in your color or an update to your long layers? Chris inspired his team to “…evolve it & recreate it…” so the length and color palette are up to you and your stylist. Darla has selected a few high profile women from within the community to model our new look and they are getting raving reviews.

Chris held a workshop where he taught the rest of the team on both the basic structure of the cut and color pattern placement. Care to stop in for a preview? “Have you ever wished you could learn how to style and blow-dry your own hair at home, just like the pros do?” Our first of many B.Y.O.B. nights was a HUGE success. There are now happy women about the town, looking their best because they learned how to style their own hair at home. We asked guests with home-styling challenges to bring all their tools and products from home and join us for styling lessons, tips and tricks. It was a blast! The cost is only $69.

Thank you all so much, to every single person who donated or purchased candles or raffle tickets for our Earth Month benefit. We know you're going to love it. All proceeds will go to the Surf Rider Foundation help keep waters clean and provide it to those in dire need.

As you may already know, we were named “Best Overall Salon Experience” by Palm Springs Life in their April issue. When they heard about our B.Y.O.B. night they arranged to attend and spent well over an hour taking photos of this great event. Janice Kleinschmidt from Palm Springs Life said that “the valley needs more fun things like this to do.” Look for our B.Y.O.B. night to be featured in an upcoming issue.

Well, keep listening because you may just hear us during the morning show personally giving away something fabulous and free. First it was a complete makeover package, and recently we were on the air again, this time with a ticket to our B.Y.O.B event. The lucky winner was Yolanda S! Lucky Yolanda came to our B.Y.O.B. event, left looking 10 years younger and she did it all by herself! She now knows the secret to great hair styling at home with confidence and ease.

As most of you know, we are expanding and growing into something bigger and better, but it takes work to get us there. Hi-Lites IS staying open throughout our renovation, so if you hear happy hammering and busy buzz saws during your visits with us, you will know that in the end, it will all be worth it. Anniversaries: In April, two of our team members celebrated another year here at Hi-Lites Aveda. On 4/12, Jim celebrated a whopping eight years! Michelle hit her first-year mark on 4/21. Michelle has been a fantastic addition to our team, and of course, where would we be without Jim, our Wizard behind the Curtain? Thanks, guys!

Recently at Hi-Lites Aveda we found out some wonderful and happy news. Two of our finest, Sandy and Ana O. are both Mommies-to-Be. Sandy's little bundle of joy is due September 23, and Ana's stork should be landing sometime around the first week in January. Good Luck and Congratulations!

For those of you that are following Sandy's mission to become a mother, she has been put on strict bed-rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. We are here to support Sandy anyway we can, and this means the rest of us taking care of her guests just as she would until she returns. Sandy has asked us to thank all of you for understanding and that she will be back before we know it. Sandy will be happier than ever after she welcomes her little girl into this world. They say a happy mommy can do a mean haircut!

She is becoming busy and much sought-after, as her Salon Coaching business is successfully taking off. Darla recently took a trip to Arizona where she was an invited speaker for The Professional Beauty Association's Salon Success Series Seminar. Darla has been a member of PBA for 12 years, and her presentation is entitled: Get out From behind the Chair and Manage Your Business! She spent two days teaching other salon owners who want to become more successful and profitable. Darla is enthusiastic to share her secrets of success and techniques that transformed her once tiny, two chair salon into the Hi-Lites Aveda Grand Salon and Hair Spa that it is today.

Darla was soon contracted to speak at several upcoming seminars over the next couple of years. In addition, of those salon owners whom she presented to on the Arizona trip, several have already retained her to travel to their businesses. Darla's mission “is to change the industry one salon at a time, by creating an environment that is beneficial to all parties involved; the owner, the Stylist and the Guest.”

Even our own AVEDA Corporate has become interested in the unique Hi-Lites way of running a salon. They recently visited us here to attend Darla's coaching class. All day long they were tuned in on camera and by radio to watch, listen, and learn. It is in the works for Darla to train other Aveda salon owners. She has already begun working with some big name salons in Maryland, Tennessee, Florida, Phoenix, Georgia, San Francisco, San Bernardino, Georgia, Las Vegas, she even has one in the United Kingdom and there are several more to come. Phew! She wears us out! Go Darla, go!
