It's HOT!
July is here and that means: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HI-LITES! On July 19 we will be celebrating our 18 year anniversary. Some of you have been there from the groundbreaking, and others have been with us long enough to see Hi-Lites transform itself again, and we so appreciate you and your support and want to thank you from every follicle on our heads!
THE SKY IS FALLING!
Speaking of transformations, the wall has finally come down between the salon and our corporate side at Hi-Lites Aveda. You've probably been wondering what will go in the new spaces we have created. More Salon Chairs of course! Our family is growing all of the time, and with Michelle's promotion and two new additions to our team, the stations will be needed. Michelle has blown us away with her natural talent and flair for style, she is being promoted to full Stylist Level starting July 1st. Congratulations, Michelle! Jacalyn will now be moved up to Stylist-in-Training, and Vivian will follow her in August. We also have two new smiling faces for you to meet; Janka and Justine are fresh talent straight out of cosmetology school. They come to our team with licenses in hand; both passed on the first try! They will be practicing as assistants for a period of six months, watching and learning, before they are ready to become Stylists-in-Training. Together with our newer people as well as our seasoned crew, we know we have a team member here who is perfect to meet YOUR individual styling needs both in personality and ability. And remember, Hi-Lites isn't like other salons; we want and encourage you to try each and every one of us so you can find the stylist best suited for you. Our goal is to provide service to the entire community, so whether you are in Ana's chair or Nick's, we appreciate you all the same.

SUMMER MAKEUP EXCHANGE
On June 30th, Hi-Lites Aveda held a fantastic makeup event that was a big hit! We invited our guests to update their look, change their old makeup routines, and learn to put on a brand new “facecolor”. Each reserved spot had a sitting fee of 30$, which was redeemable for 30$ worth of makeup. What a deal! This included a 20 minute complexion consultation and application with our in-house Image Consultant Paula. Following that, guests had a 20 minute eye or lip consultation and application with an Aveda Guest Makeup Artist. Plus, for every old, discarded makeup item that was exchanged, guests received 10% off each new purchase. Please look forward to participating in the next makeup event we will hold here, and we'll keep you posted.
BRAINS FOR BEAUTY
Remember hearing us talk about a huge hair show called Aveda Master Jam? Well a few lucky team members were fortunate enough to attend the last two in London and Minneapolis. The event is making its way around the country again, and we're so lucky that it's being held practically in our own backyard. We are beyond excited about this opportunity and planning ahead of time to be able to take as many team members as possible. Darla is reserving all the enrollment fees from the UNLIMITED HAIR MEMBERSHIPS and putting it toward paying for her team's education. This will be a two-day, in-depth education boot camp held in Los Angeles. The purpose will be to enrich, reinforce, and introduce the Hi-Lites Aveda Team to all new styles and the latest techniques in hair, style, and beauty.

Our Anniversary is a mutually beneficial event. Since Darla is putting all enrollment fees from our UNLIMITED HAIR MEMBERSHIPS toward our education and it's our 18th Anniversary…why not put them on sale to enable more people to join? GOT MEN?
Not Aveda's new Men's' line, you don't! Be one of the first to experience the new product line, created especially for our masculine guests. The line includes several new hair grooming aids, like the liquid pomade, and a super-requested HARD HOLD gel. The shampoo and conditioner are formulated uniquely for a man's scalp, (yes, it is actually different from a woman's) and the aroma of all these is deeply intoxicating, yet warm and natural. We should be receiving our first shipment in August, so get ready.
WHERE, OH WHERE, IS DARLA?
As you read this newsletter she is down South in hot and humid Marietta, Georgia. She is there to reconfigure a salon from the ground up with her Salon Coaching Business. When she gets back, she'll be unpacking and repacking her suitcase to head out to Modesto, Tennessee, and St. Louis. Hi-Lites Aveda's Events Coordinator, Noelle, and Master Designer Rebecca are joining her in Georgia to help promote the new business and sell Sampler Packages to bring new clients into their salon. Good job ladies, show them how we do it here in California!

June 13th Darla, Sarah and Jaclynn all celebrated birthdays and Tami celebrated her One-Year Hi-Lites Anniversary.
SPECIAL NOTE FROM DARLA…
Since it's our Anniversary, I'd like to do something a little bit special in this letter. I would like to publicly thank my loyal team. My wonderful people are back at the salon, keeping all the systems running as they should. They are keeping my vision alive and holding down the fort. Take this newsletter for example; this is Erin's 4th month being our Editor. She takes time out of her busy day to keep track of our news events, letters, press releases and getting the information out to all of you, the media, and our community. Several of my people have gifted talents other than doing hair, and they use those talents every day to make a combined effort at being the BEST. Best in our community, best in our valley, best in the industry. With those talents and my burning desire to change this industry, I am enabled to share my secrets, helping other salons to achieve the success and happiness that I have. I simply cannot tell my team enough how proud I am of them, so now I will tell all of you, our guests, how much I appreciate them. Let me start at the beginning:
Chris, thank you for your passion for this industry. Thank you for your trust and desire to share all your talents and knowledge with those around you. Thank you for taking everything I have taught you over the past nine years and making sure to keep that vision alive in paying it forward to all those below you. You are a great Artistic Director and your team's work is a true reflection of your gift. Ana G, thank you for keeping all the Apprentices on track and focused so that they can pass their boards. You are helping them to become the best hairdressers they can be, and doing it in such a compassionate way. You are a great Apprentice Director. Ana O, thank you for keeping the peace on the floor and the family happy. Thank you for keeping my direction focused and executing it in a positive and caring way, you are a great Team Coordinator. Tami, thank you for EVERYTHING you do, from hiring such a great team, keeping the a/c and lights on, listening and being there everyday for someone to talk to and the 1,000 other reasons why I appreciate you. You truly know what it is that I am looking for in a team, and our team is a reflection of you. You are a great Human Resources and Office Manager. Sarah, thank you for taking complete control and owning the vision of our front end team, your love and passion for the Hi-Lites Aveda vision show through them, you are a great Front End Manager.
And of course, Jim, the secret behind all my successes! I love you and thank you for all your support and encouragement. Thank you for taking over all of my duties of the business and running it better than I ever could. Many of you out there do not know that my General Manager is also my husband, and he's my best kept secret, and the best father one precious daughter could ask for. My success would not be if it were not for you. And for the rest of the Team, Thank you all for being there for each other, for caring in each other's successes, and for believing in and embracing my vision.
